Alan Sheehan

Alan is the founding principal of Douglas Rochestown ETNS (DRETNS). The school has grown from a class of 20 children and 2 teachers to over 500 pupils and 50 staff since it opened in 2013. Alan has an MEd in the area of curriculum and a PhD in assessment as well as a PGD in SEN. Alan is interested in promoting the role of assessment in learning and teaching, activity based and thematic learning, and collaborative, sustainable and effective school leadership. He also has a passion for inclusive education and supporting children with additional needs. He has trained as an IPPN facilitator and has established a Support Group for recently appointed principals. DRETNS participated in the schools' forum during the development of the Primary Curriculum Framework.
